Henrik Renqvist (1789–1866), originally known as Heikki Kukkonen, was a leader of a revivalist movement. He was banished to the fortress island in 1826, where he served as prison chaplain for ten years. When he arrived he brought with him his family, a wife and four sons. A daughter and another son were born on Svartholma. One of the sons died at Svartholma and he was buried on Hautausmaasaari island.
It was not possible to entirely subdue the activities of Renqvist even though he was banished to Svartholma. During his stay at Svartholma he wrote several books, the most noteworthy being Wiinan kauhistus (=The Horror of Alcohol).
